Summary: With the arrival of the Dutch colonists in South Africa (century XVII) future settlers, for lack of hospitals, had to develop their own skills in caring for the sick by working out their own unique means and ways of preventing and treating diseases and relieving symptoms, namely «boererate». Despite the relatively high level of development of the medical infrastructure at the moment, the technique elaborated by the Boers many centuries ago continues to function successfully even now, acquiring new supporters and expanding the sphere of its application. Currently, there are over 8700 tailor-made recipes for the use of certain products.
