Abstract. The article tries to elicit professionalization models for dentists studied in the frameworks of internship and/or medical residency. The authors recorded a narrative interview, conducted a content analysis of a journalist investigation on MBH Media website and posts in the dentists’ community “Dentists Accreditation” on VKontakte social network. The first, ideal, model of professionalization, objectivation of cultural capital in the form of academic qualification occurs as a result of dentists’ training at the educational institutions that adhere to high standards – in its learning program as well as educators staff. The second model of professionalization, a conformist one, is characteristic of those who study nominally, gain professional knowledge, skills and methods at a worksite not connected in any way with internship and/or medical residency. The third, imitative, model does not in fact lead to dentist’s professionalization, although he does acquire a cultural capital, has access to professional work thanks to a diploma certifying his graduation from internship and/or medical residency. Nobody needs them at educational organizations; they are not ready to work independently. If they strive to become actual professionals, not only nominal ones, after graduation they are forced to seek a job with a senior doctor available, who is capable of being a mentor.
