Key words: Ob Ugrians, folk healing, ritual practices, dark retreat, altered state of consciousness
Annotation: The article introduces the specific healing ritual “Dark House”, held in the traditional environment of the Ob-Ugric peoples until the 1970s. Unlike other ritual practices, this rite was conducted in complete darkness. For the first time, a typological parallel is drawn between the Ob-Ugric shaman ritual and the “dark retreat”, which is not only the spiritual practice of Eastern religions, but also one of the methods of modern practical psychology. The proposed approach allows us to shed light on the understanding of the mechanisms of the positive impact of the “dark house” on the patient in traditional living conditions.
