Abstract: The text provides information on international Schools of medical anthropology and bioethics conducted by the Center of Medical Anthropology, Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology (Russian Academy of Sciences), for students of medical universities. In 2013 the 5th and 6th schools of this kind were organized; at the end of the 6th school Prof. Sana Loue conducted selection of students for an MA program in Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University.
The schools worked for two days and were primarily targeted at students of medical universities, future doctors, helping them to expend their horizons, learn about new medical systems, practices and methods of folk medicine, changes and development of these traditions. This type of knowledge is necessary for medical professionals working with patients who often times use services of alternative and complementary medicines’ practitioners. The lecturers using case studies taught students useful practical skills, such as receiving voluntary informed consent, cultural competence, et al.
The 5th school was conducted on February 27-28th, 2013, by the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Institute of Philosophy (sector of humanitarian review and bioethics) and First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov (Pharmacy Research Institute).
On March, 1st Dr. Sana Loue, Professor at the Department of Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University, selected candidates for the 2014 Fall-Spring MA program in Bioethics.
The following 6th School worked on November, 11-13th, with the support of Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry. The school was attended by 6th year students of therapy division and 3rd year students of clinical psychology, as well as PhD students of Institute of Ethnology and Institute of Philosophy of Russian Academy of Sciences.
